Hearing Assessment.

Understanding Your Hearing Health

Our comprehensive hearing assessments begin with a personal consultation to understand your medical history and hearing concerns. Using advanced diagnostic tools like video otoscopy and pure tone tests, we evaluate your auditory canal and hearing capabilities.

Following the assessment, our audiologist provides you with a detailed understanding of your results and a tailored plan for your hearing needs, including liaising with GPs or ENT specialists as required. You also may be eligible for a Medicare rebate when you bring your GP referral.

Employment Hearing Evaluations:

Pre Employment
Hearing Evaluations

Certain jobs require you to hear well. This might be because of the equipment involved, or because the job involves emergency situations where not hearing something can be dangerous for you or someone else.

Often in these cases, the organisation will require a hearing test either as part of the interview process or before you start the job if your application is successful. This is often referred to as a pre-employment hearing test.

WorkSafe
Hearing Evaluations

Protect your hearing in noisy work environments with our WorkSafe hearing evaluations. We provide comprehensive assessments and management plans to ensure your hearing health is not compromised on the job.

Tinnitus.

Navigating the Challenges of Tinnitus

Tinnitus is not a disease or illness, but a condition often associated with hearing loss or problems with the hearing pathway. In some cases, it may be linked to exposure to loud noises or damage to the inner ear.  For some people, tinnitus comes and goes, while others experience it continuously. It can affect people of all ages, though is more common in adults over 65.

If you are suffering from tinnitus, we can provide you with the tinnitus management and support you need to move forward. The journey begins with a thorough assessment and evaluation. We’ll understand how tinnitus affects your life before conducting a full diagnostic assessment. We’ll then develop a tailored management plan that fits your needs.

Earwax
Removal.

Clearing the Way for Better Hearing

In most cases, earwax works its way out on its own, and there is no need to remove it. However, if earwax is blocking your ear canal and causing hearing loss, it may require removal using either manual or micro-suction methods.

Types of Earwax Removal:

Ear.png

Manual Removal

Using specialised instruments, earwax can be manually removed from the outer portion of the ear canal. In cases where the ear wax is particularly dense and deep, it can be helpful to manually remove it. However, manual eradication is frequently combined with other, more sophisticated methods.

Ear.png

Micro-suction Removal

Some people seem to make more wax than others. This is not a sign of poor hygiene. Our Audiologists are trained to perform ear cleaning procedures using micro-suction and curettage techniques in accordance with all relevant Australian clinical standards. No referral is required. Microsuction is a safe and effective method for clearing the ears of excessive wax.

Micro-suction differs from having your ears syringed with water as it is a completely dry procedure. Whilst water syringing can be used to remove wax, it is not without complications and can often be messy and uncomfortable. For some populations a dry technique is necessary or preferred, including those with a perforated eardrum or grommets, diabetics, those who have a depressed immune system or are taking blood thinners.

Micro-suction and curettage can also be used on people who have a current ear infection to remove debris related to infection and allow better penetration of prescribed ear drops. It can also be used to remove foreign bodies such as insects, cotton bud tips and dislodged hearing aid domes.

Sometimes for particularly dry and stubborn impacted wax, softening is required to make the procedure more comfortable. Overall, micro-suction is quick, well tolerated, and does not expose the ear to moisture.

Understanding Bone Conduction Hearing Solutions.

Innovative Hearing for Unique Needs

Bone conduction hearing aids and implants offer a unique solution for those who may not benefit from traditional hearing aids. These devices transmit sound through the bones in the skull directly to the inner ear, bypassing problems in the ear canal or middle ear.

There are both non-surgical and surgical options available, catering to different needs and conditions. Non-surgical devices typically involve a headband or adhesive to conduct sound, while surgical options include an implanted component for direct bone conduction.

Bone-conduct.jpeg

Your Bone Conduction Implant Journey.

Who Can Benefit

Ideal candidates for bone conduction systems might suffer from malformations of the ear canal, chronic ear infections, or other conditions like single-sided deafness or Meniere’s disease.

A detailed evaluation with your audiologist will help determine if this innovative solution is right for you.

Trying Bone Conduction

During your evaluation, you'll have the opportunity to experience what sound delivered through bone conduction feels like using a processor connected to a headband.

This hands-on experience can be invaluable in understanding the potential benefits.

Compared To Other Hearing Solutions

Unlike traditional hearing aids that amplify air-conducted sound through the ear canal, bone conduction devices directly stimulate the cochlea.

This method can be particularly effective for individuals who have outer or middle ear obstructions or conditions.

Follow Up & Maintenance

For non-surgical devices, maintenance might involve regular cleaning and possible adjustments to the headband or adhesive. Surgical options typically require a follow-up with the audiologist and surgeon to ensure proper healing and device function.

In both cases, ongoing support ensures your hearing solution continues to meet your needs effectively. If you're curious about bone conduction hearing aids or implants and whether they might be right for you, please contact us to schedule a consultation and learn more

Understanding Cochlear Implants.

A New Era in Hearing Solutions

Cochlear implants represent a significant advancement in hearing technology, offering an effective solution for individuals where hearing aids provide limited benefit. These devices work by bypassing damaged parts of the ear and directly stimulating the auditory nerve, providing a clearer sound experience.

A cochlear implant system typically consists of two parts: an external sound processor and an internal implant. The external processor captures sounds, which are then converted into digital signals and transmitted to the internal implant. The implant directly stimulates the auditory nerve, allowing the user to perceive sound.

Your Cochlear
Implant Journey.

Hearing Test & Insurance

Hearing Test:

The process begins with a comprehensive hearing test by a Hearing Implant Specialist to determine your suitability for a cochlear implant.

Insurance Approval:

We assist in coordinating with your insurance company to confirm coverage and eligibility for the procedure.

Implant & Activation

Surgery:

The implantation is typically an outpatient procedure, taking 2-4 hours under general anaesthesia. This part of your journey is performed by an ENT Surgeon.

Activation:

A few weeks post-surgery, you'll return to have your cochlear implant activated, marking the moment you'll hear through the device for the first time.

Aftercare & Rehabilitation

Post Surgery:

Several follow-up appointments will be necessary to fine-tune and adjust your sound processor, ensuring an optimal hearing experience.

Ongoing Rehabilitation & Care:

Rehabilitation is crucial as your brain adapts to interpreting sounds through the implant. Continuous care and auditory training are key to maximising the benefits of your cochlear implant.

Long Term Care

Embracing life with a cochlear implant involves ongoing commitment to care and maintenance, including regular check-ups and potential updates to the device. While every patient's experience is unique, the goal is always to provide a richer, more engaging hearing experience.

If you or a loved one are considering a cochlear implant, or if you're simply curious about this technology, we encourage you to book an appointment with our specialists. Our team is ready to guide you through each step of the process, from evaluation to lifelong care.

Many clinics offer trial periods. Ask your audiologist about trial options.
  • How often should I get my hearing checked?
